Season 2 – Ep. 1: “It’s been an honor and a privilege”

We are back for Season 2! And, it is our 1 year Podiversary! Thank you to all of you for listening and supporting us. We are so excited to start this new year with more romance-related shenanigans!

To kick it off, we decided to watch a movie that is beloved by many–just not us, James Cameron’s 1997 epic, “Titanic“. Take your Dramamine and get your floaties on and enjoy this amazing discussion of this watery love story. Did we mention, we only watched the last half of the movie?

Moral to the Story: White, heterosexual love survives.

Other Fun Topics Discussed:

  • Catching up on life after three months on break. Basically, winter sucks, work sucks.
  • Mallory was 10 years-old when she first saw Titanic and Kate Winslet was the first movie nudity she ever saw.
  • We both really hate this movie.
  • Mallory wanted to make sure we watched exactly half of this movie. We started at 1:36:01
  • Jack and Rose’s love caused the Titanic to hit the iceberg.
  • The reason for lack of diversity on the Titanic was slavery.
  • Mallory agrees with Roxane Gay: “It’s fucking bullshit that Jack dies. There is plenty of room on that door. I am going to bed.”
  • Mallory thought it would be a better use of time to build your own raft out of doors instead of running around.
  • Tamu’s Lesson Learned: Drink & be on the top deck.
  • Knowledge Check: learn about the systems that have led to financial inequality, and the current concentration of wealth and power. Watch or read Requiem for the American Dream
  • Every Rose and Jack scenario would end in Jack being dead EXCEPT for the one with the door.
  • How many life jackets did Rose get then leave?
  • Our favorite part of the movie is the quartet playing “Nearer my God to Thee.”
  • Love creates catastrophe.
  • They both really could have shared that door.
  • Jack’s thoughts as he freezes to death, “Me winning that ticket was the best thing that ever happened to me…not…glug…glug…glug.”
  • Remember “The Phantom“?
  • Class distinction hasn’t changed.
  • Bad at Love Theory: Jack would have lived if not for trying to save Rose.

This week Tamu & Mallory discuss breakups with the help of  an amazing podcast: Small Doses with Amanda Seales. Episode 28: Side Effects of a Breakup truly provided a lot of great advice on how to process a breakup and lead to robust discussions.

Moral to the Story: Take the time you need to heal and follow your gut.

Other Fun Topics Discussed:

Mallory needs stats as usual.

It’s Disney’s Fault: for all of our relationship beliefs.

Rejoice Recluses: There is a chance for love via Uber Eats.

Question Du Jour: Can you masturbate to your ex?

New Read: Kraken & Unicorn Shifter Romance – Wriggle & Sparkle: The Collected Tales of a Kraken & A Unicorn

Let music cure you of sadness by listening to a uptempo foreign language song  to ease the pain. For Tamu, it would be Bollywood music, for Mallory, music from New Zealand.

Mallory has friends to attend The Hanson Summit in Tulsa every year.

BTW, Tulsa is quaint.

Tamu’s immunity to scorpion stings because she is a Scorpio.

Crying is OK – not Diane Keaton crying tho.

Bad@Love’s Method of overcoming a breakup: Killing them off in your mind.

Really though, developing coping skills is key.

Don’t do what we did: Building walls

Mallory wrecks Tamu’s chances for love by forgetting to tell her about speed dating events.

Advice for the Ages: Therapy. Therapy. Therapy. You friends can only help you up to a point.

Sage advice from Amanda: Know when to block and when it is time to go.

Flutter: Bad@Love’s 1st Annual Awkward Spooktacular Moments in Dating

Halloween season is kicking off with a bang thanks to the brave women and men who submitted their awkward date stories.

There were so many responses to requests for tales from dating that Tamu & Mallory ended up breaking them into three separate categories; Awkward, Creepy, and Scary.  Enjoy these awkward dating moments.

Moral to the Story: Yes, people can be awkward when it comes to dating and finding love; but, let’s treat one another with respect so we can all laugh about it later.

Flutter: Dream Knight – Segments of a Lifetime Movie

In this week’s Flutter, Mallory & Tamu explore Mallory’s love of Korean dramas by watching Dream Knight.

First off,  apologies for not knowing who GOT7  were. Also, it was difficult to decipher which member was which because they change their hair color for every photo shoot.

Moral to the Story: Fall down, expect saving, dance badly after months of practice, and, be aware that your dolls came to life.

Other Fun Topics Discussed:

  • Tamu just doesn’t understand.
  • Dangerous motorcycle dance sequences.
  • Infinite montages…one at Popeye’s Chicken!
  • Tamu cannot remember Stomp the Yard.
  • The perils of walking with one crutch.
  • Early onset paralysis with muscle stiffness.
  • The origins of Twilight lip biting.
  • Dance festival = bad dancing.
  • Mallory cannot explain her love of K-dramas.
  • K-Pop Idol fans are hardcore devoted.
  • The music of GOT7.
  • Eye smiling.

Episode 5: Love is a Complicated Everything

In this week’s episode (the final in the get-to-know us series), Tamu & Mallory discuss their relationship red flags. Some examples are: don’t be a bad kisser, don’t send dicktures (dictures? you get it), and don’t tell Tamu you took an epic dump in a local supermarket after eating cheese curds. They also turn the tables on themselves and talk about what their own red flags are.

Moral to the Story: We can’t be your everything, find a hobby.

Other Fun Topics Discussed:

  • Tamu learns what a Coco Roo is.
  • Mallory explains what pull tabs are.
  • The pitbull on the NYC subway.
  • Beauty standards are impossible.
  • Neil Patrick Harris could never be a Trump supporter.
  • Dating a taxidermist ticks off a box on Mallory’s bucket list.
  • If Bad at Love Pod ruled the world, Tamu would be napping.
  • Mallory got killed in the video game, Democracy for giving free lunch to kids…thanks Democracy.
  • The Minnesota locked bathroom door policy.

New Potential Band Names: Fondling Assholes (could be a classical music orchestra, no?)

Episode 4, Part 2: Mallory’s Poor, Dark Closet

In this week’s episode, Tamu & Mallory dig deep into Mallory’s school-aged treasures and talk about her teenage crushes.

We learn about her love of Heath Ledger, David Bowie, Jeff Goldblum (of course), and Orlando Bloom, a.k.a., Legolas. Turns out, Mr. Bloom held a special place in her heart for a number of years as we discover from all of the assorted Lord of the Rings posters, trading cards, and assorted memorabilia she collected.

Mallory shares her drawings from art high school and, much like Tamu’s journals and poetry, they provide amazing insights about a young lady, who really wanted to be a warrior, who loves dragons, and yearned for the heart of one hot, blonde elf; Legolas.

Moral to the Story: Crushes are fun!

Other Fun Topics Discussed:

  • Anime character development.
  • Mallory’s high-school Spanish project.
  • Spike Spiegel from Cowboy Bebop.
  • Mallory has a hand-signed note from JK Rowling!
  • Lawyer braids
  • Mallory’s ocean wedding to Orlando Bloom, complete with dolphin.

Apologies: We used to record at the library and every time we did, we would get interrupted. This was our last recording session there and we thought we made it unscathed…we were wrong! Enjoy that announcement at the end!

Episode 4 Part 1: Banned@Love – Music Edition

In this week’s episode, Tamu & Mallory explore how music has shaped and will continue to shape their lives.

Tamu digs through the crates of her music collection to reveal the love songs that she banned from her ears and mind after the end of her tumultuous relationships with Sven and Bjorn. The first song on the list, Prince’s Adore, was released the same year Mallory was born, which made Tamu feel so young and vibrant!

The 7-year ban has been lifted and these songs are joyfully part of her playlist rotation once again.

Check out the Banned@Love playlist below:

Mallory shares the fact the she has incredible disdain for Owl City’s Fireflies, and had a weird fondness for Jewel. As a youth, she also played hours upon hours of video games whilst listening to Christina Aguilera’s 2002 album, Stripped.

Moral to the Story: You learn so much about a person from looking at their playlists.

Other Fun Topics Discussed:

  • Share the Love Wednesdays origins.
  • Tamu’s love for Sade is equal to her love of Prince.
  • Mallory REALLY liked The Proclaimers, I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles).
  • Tamu’s ex-men’s Nordic replacement names have her flummoxed.
  • Skryim, Dragon Age, and Zelda game music are great inspirations for fantasy writing and jewelry making.
  • Mallory has a future career as a video game DJ.
  • Alternative name for the podcast: Practically Oversharing.

Sorry Not Sorry: There is a lot of singing that is tremendously off key. Tamu knows she is not destined for Idol or The Voice, but it is her show, so deal!

Episode 3: I Choo-Choo-Choose You

In this week’s episode, Tamu & Mallory watch each other’s favorite teen movies, Ever After: A Cinderella Story and Pretty in Pink.

If you haven’t guessed, Ever After was Mallory’s jam back in the day; so much so, she wrote an essay about it in the 7th grade. She felt more closely aligned to the Cinderella character, however, much to her chagrin, Tamu found Mallory’s tendencies to be more Prince leaning…she was not pleased. Tamu was annoyed with the end of the movie because Game of Thrones training has taught her that you must kill your enemies so they don’t come back for revenge; yet, The Baroness lives.

Meanwhile, Mallory had some serious opinions about Tamu’s choice, Pretty in Pink; mainly that Molly Ringwald’s character settled.

Both ladies learn that prom is the most important event in the known universe.

Moral to the Story: A relationship doesn’t start in 5 days, it takes a least 6 or 7 days.

Other Fun Topics Discussed:

  • Tamu saw Black Panther
  • Yertle the Turtle
  • Sex and the City stole the shoe scene proposal from Ever After
  • Other 2000s movies Mallory needs to watch
  • Love Actually and Laura Linney’s choice
  • Mallory LOVES Pride and Prejudice 2005
  • Duties: sacrificing your wants/needs for others
  • 80s movies are problematic AF
  • Realistic stats about High School romance (it ain’t pretty)
  • Tamu equates relationships to Mary J. Blige’s song, Seven Days

Apologies: First there were sound issues. It will be better next time. Second, Tamu tries and fails doing an Australian accent…sorry, Australia.

Flutter: Wakanda 4 EVA

Tamu, Mallory, and special guest Sarah discuss the cultural phenomenon that is “Black Panther”. The episode was recorded the weekend “Black Panther” hit theaters and the excitement expressed still rings true a billion+ dollars later.

This time they are late and timely with a pop culture reference because the new Avengers movie comes out April 27th!

Moral to the Story: Wakanda forever, duh!

Other Fun Topics Discussed:

  • Michael B. Jordan vs. Chadwick Boseman vs. Mahershala Ali
  • Discussions about race occurring as a result of “Black Panther”

P.S. At the time of the recording, Tamu had not seen the movie. We are proud to say, she has since seen it twice and cried at various points during each viewing.
